There’s really only about an hour’s difference in daylight between June 20th and December 20th.Therefore, Cayman has the same time all year, -5 hours Coordinated Universal time (UTC).

This means the Islands share Eastern Standard Time (EST= -5 UTC) with Miami and New York from November through April. When the USA switches to Daylight Savings Time in April, Cayman then shares Central Daylight Time (CDT= -5 UTC) with Chicago and Houston.

Passports

To enter the Cayman Islands, Passports are required of U.S., British, Commonwealth, and all other foreign Nationals.

Canadian citizens are not required to carry passports. All they need is proof of citizenship – voter’s registration, birth certificate, citizenship card – and a return ticket.

Currency Exchange and Money Matters

There is no need for visitors to exchange their US dollars into local currency. The U.S. dollar is widely accepted in the Cayman Islands. If US currency is used for payment, change will likely be given in CI$. All cash registers are programmed to make the conversion automatically. Banks do NOT give a better exchange rate! In general, a U.S. $ = CI .80 and a CI $ = $1.25 U.S. Cayman currency is similar to the U.S. and consists of 1 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, and 25 cent coins. Paper currency is in the form of $1 (blue), $5 (green), 25$ (brown), $50 (blue), and $100 (orange) bills.

Canadian dollars, Euros and pounds sterling can be exchanged for CI dollars at local banks.

In addition, Automatic Teller Machines accepting VISA and MasterCard with Cirrus affiliation are located at Cayman National Bank and other banks and at Owen Roberts International Airport as well as a few other locations such as the grocery stores.
